Who is eligible to apply?

Any graduating senior from Vicksburg High School or Warren Central High School with a GPA of 2.5 or above.

What are the criteria for selection?

Applicants will be evaluated on a combination of academics (GPA), extra-curricular activities (both in-school and out-of-school), leadership (e.g. captain/co-captain of athletic teams, or leadership positions in clubs and volunteer activities), and overcoming obstacles or challenges.

How many scholarship winners will there be?

There will be one scholarship recipient from Vicksburg High School and one recipient from Warren Central High School.

How much is the scholarship?

Each recipient will receive $2,000 to be applied to tuition, room and board, books, or other college expenses.

How do I apply?

When is the deadline for applying?

The deadline for receipt of materials for application for the 2023-2024 academic year is 11:59 pm (Eastern Time) on Friday, April 19, 2024.

Who decides the scholarship recipients?

The scholarship recipients will be selected by the trustees of The Brown Family Trust A.

How will recipients be informed?

Recipients will in informed of the scholarship award by telephone or email.

How will awardee(s) receive funds?

Funds will be awarded to the recipient by check.

How will I know my application has been received?

You will receive a confirmation email from the selection committee confirming receipt of completed applications.  It is the student’s responsibility to ensure you correctly submit the application materials to the committee from a valid email account that sends and receives external emails.

What should the letter(s) of recommendation/endorsement say?

In addition to providing recommendations or endorsements for the student, school personnel should verify/validate participation in extracurricular activities as well as leadership in those in-school activities.

For extracurricular activities outside school, verification/validation can be provided in the letter(s) of recommendation/endorsement from school personnel, if they are aware of participation, or from leadership from each of the external activities in which the student participates.

What should the short biography say?

The short biography should be about a paragraph and should provide basic information about the student, including GPA, extracurricular and leadership activities, volunteer work, and any other information the student feels relevant for the selection committee.  Sample follows:

John Brown is a graduating senior attending Smith High School.  This is his third high school due to his father’s military service.  While in high school, he has participated in several in- and out-of-school extracurricular clubs, sports, and activities, including serving as the Vice President of the German-Russian Language Club, and participating in the Model United Nations, Close Up: A Seminar on Congress, Academic Bowl, and Famous Speakers Program, which included interviewing prominent politicians, including presidential candidate Gary Hart and  Congressman Wyche Fowler.  He earned a varsity letter in soccer, played lacrosse on the military installation’s lacrosse team, and volunteered for the American Red Cross while maintaining a 3.4 GPA. John worked at Six Flags for two summers.  He achieved the rank of Cadet Colonel in three years of JROTC and plans to attend the United States Military Academy at West Point in the fall.

How should applicants name the files?

All files submitted should include the applicant’s name and type of document (e.g. John_Brown_Essay.doc or John_Brown_Letter_of_Recommendation1.doc)
